Hook 3X-4X long streamer hook, #4-10 (tied here on a #6)
Thread Blue (or black, or to match the fins) 70-140 denier
Materials
Lead-free wire, 0.020 Silver lead free wire (Wraps over two-thirds of the shank)
Chenille, small Black chenille (Two pieces about three inches long for the lateral lines)
Chenille, medium White chenille (One length for the body)
Saddle hackle feathers Kingfisher blue (any bright colour) (Two for the dorsal fin, two for the tail)
UV resin or head cement Clear uv resin (A good drop for the head)
How to tie it
Debarb the hook, mount it, and wrap 0.020 wire over about two-thirds of the shank; start the thread and ramp it down at both ends of the weight.
Take the thread to the rear and tie in a doubled piece of small black chenille, both tag ends left hanging back, which will become the lateral lines.
Tie in the medium white chenille at the same rear point.
Take two bright saddle hackles, lay them on top and measure them, then strip the fibres off the underside where they will be bound down; these two feathers make both the dorsal fin and the tail.
With the thread hanging where you want the gap between fin and tail, lift the feathers, take a couple of wraps to set the separation, then a couple of tight wraps on top, and lay the first turn of white chenille in behind them to force a clean gap.
Wrap the white chenille forward over the shank to just short of the eye, being careful not to trap the tail, and tie it off with several tight wraps.
Pull the two hackle feathers forward along the top of the body like a dorsal fin, strip the fibres off where they meet the head, and lock them down with plenty of tight wraps. This is the wrap that fails first, so overdo it.
Bring the two strands of black chenille up one along each side as lateral lines, pinch-wrap them at the head, check position, lock them in and snip the excess.
Build a big streamer head, whip finish, and coat it with UV resin.
Clean up: trim some white chenille off the belly for a bullet-shaped baitfish profile, and cut the stems out of the two rear feathers so a clean tail remains.
