Materials

  • Hook Size 12 (style not stated)
  • Tail Deer hair, stacked, about shank length
  • Wing/post Calf tail, stacked, about shank length, tied facing forward
  • Hackle Not colour-specified (parachute-wound)
  • Body Dubbing mix of hair's ear olive rabbit, orange rabbit and Antron

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a thread base on the hook.
  2. Clean and stack deer hair and tie it in as a tail about the length of the shank; clip the excess.
  3. Advance the thread to about the two-thirds mark, then stack calf tail, measure it to shank length and tie it in facing forward as the wing post.
  4. Trim the butts at a taper to make a smooth body base.
  5. Wrap thread up the base of the post to stand it, then wrap around the hook and make many wraps to build a base for the hackle.
  6. Tie in the hackle angling up.
  7. Take the thread back to the tail, spin the dubbing mix on the thread and wrap the body forward, leaving a little space behind the eye.
  8. Wrap the hackle around the parachute post, tie off and clip.
  9. Whip finish, then add head cement to the head and a drop where the hackle meets the post.
