Materials
Lead-free wire, 0.025 Silver lead free wire (A good number of wraps (optional, can be tied unweighted))
Marabou White marabou (One decent tuft for the tail)
Chenille, medium Black (or brown, or brown/black variegated) (One length for the back)
Chenille, medium Gray chenille medium (One length for the body)
Rubber legs White rubber legs small (Two doubled strands, four legs per side)
How to tie it
Mount the #8 wet fly hook and wrap a good number of turns of 0.025 wire over the middle of the shank, then start red thread and build small dams behind and in front of the weight to lock it down.
Take the thread to the bend and tie in a tuft of white marabou for a tail about one body-length long.
Fill the step between the tail and the lead wraps with a couple of loose turns of chenille scrap, or simply build it up with thread, so the underbody is level.
Tie in the black chenille at the rear for the back, remembering to tie materials in in the reverse order you will use them, then tie in the gray body chenille at the same point.
Park the thread just forward of the halfway mark and tie in a doubled pair of white rubber legs on the near side: pinch wrap loosely, position them out to the side, then lock them down with tight wraps.
Wrap the gray chenille forward in three or four turns behind the legs, one turn through the middle of the legs to angle them back, and one or two turns in front, then tie it off short of the eye and clip.
Pull the black chenille flat over the top as a back and bind it down behind the eye with several wraps going back, then trim.
Build a big red head, whip finish, and split the rubber legs with your bodkin or fingernail into two per side, trimming the front legs slightly shorter than the back ones.
