How to tie it
Start thread right behind the bead to lock it in place, then wrap back to the bend of the hook.
Tie in five or six olive pheasant tail fibres on top as the tail, roughly half to the full length of the body.
Wrap forward over the tail butts; bulk is not a concern on this fly.
Tie in medium olive wire down the back of the fly and push it to the side at the tail.
Tie in the white flex floss behind the bead as the ecdysial line ('zipper').
Split the dirty bug yarn to a single strand and tie it in behind the bead, then wrap it forward as the body.
Bend the flex floss over the top of the body and spiral the wire over it in three or four turns, then helicopter the wire off.
Tie in the brown scud skin behind the bead, leaving a little extra so it folds over cleanly.
Tie an overhand knot in an olive flex floss leg, roll it back to make a 90 degree bend, trim to about an eighth of an inch, and tie one leg on each side about three quarters of the way down the body.
Make a dubbing loop of the flash dub and wrap the thorax: two wraps between the legs, the rest in front, finishing about two wraps in front of the bead.
Fold the scud skin over as the wing case, lock it with a wrap in front, then lay the flex floss over the top and lock that down on the centre line.
Tie in front legs of flex floss in front of the bead and trim them to the length of the bead.
Make a couple of wraps for an olive hot spot and whip finish.
Put a small dab of Loon thin resin on top of the wing case and shape it with a bodkin.
