How to tie it
Slide a 1/8 inch copper cone head onto the hook first, then a 1/8 inch silver-lined maroon glass bead behind it, push both up to the eye and set the hook in the vise.
Before tying, spin a dubbing brush: lay black-and-red Arizona Semi-Seal sparsely along a doubled length of small red wire in a dubbing block, fold the wire over the fibres and spin it into a brush; pick out any clumpy spots. One brush makes at least two flies.
Start black thread behind the glass bead and wrap back to the end of the shank.
Tie in a slender, sparse tail of Semi-Seal about one shank-length long at the bend.
Tie the wire dubbing brush in at the bend as well, then even out the shank with tying thread.
Grip the end of the brush with hackle pliers, not your fingers, and wind it forward in touching turns to the glass bead; tie it off and clip the wire.
Whip finish behind the bead, then work the fly over with a velcro brush to free the trapped fibres so the body will pulse.
To take the kink out of the material, drop the finished flies into near-boiling water in a small pyrex dish, then re-mount and comb them out so the fibres lay flat.
