Tyer Recipe

  • Hook TMC 403 BLJ barbless jig, Jig hook (60-degree)
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Metallic purple slotted tungsten bead (1/8 inch)
  • Partridge fibers Natural brown partridge (Small soft bunch (tail))
  • Peacock herl, dyed Purple ice dub peacock herl (Several strands (body))
  • Wire, medium (0.2mm) Purple ultra wire (1 length (rib))
  • UV Ice Dub Purple ice dub (Tiny pinch (collar))
  • CDC feather, long-fibered Gray/light dun cdc feather long fibered (1 (collar))
  • Dubbing brush wire, fine stainless Stainless (1 length (collar brush))
  • Superglue/Super Weld Clear head cement (Whip finish)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the metallic purple bead on the jig hook and lay a thread base.
  2. Tie in a short, soft tail of partridge fibers taken from a back feather. It should breathe in the water.
  3. Tie in the purple wire and bind it along the whole shank for reinforcement.
  4. Tie in the purple-dyed peacock herl by the tips, tips-first keeps the flue standing buggier, and wrap the herl body forward by hand; tie off.
  5. Reverse-wrap the purple wire through the herl to lock it; tie off.
  6. Tie in the fine stainless dubbing-brush wire. Lay a very small pinch of UV purple Ice Dub over the thread, strip the fibers from a long gray CDC feather and lay the butts on top, then close the wire and spin the brush.
  7. Wrap the brush as a collar behind the bead. The wire core holds the CDC out perpendicular so it keeps breathing instead of matting back. Tie off the wire and trim with the inside of your scissors.
  8. Put a dab of superglue on the thread and whip finish behind the bead.
