Midge · Nymph · Trout · Advanced · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Curved pupa, 1X short, 10 (or 12-14)
  • Thread Black 6/0 Semperfli flat

Materials

  • Glow-in-the-dark glass bead, small Glow (1)
  • Lead wire, 0.010 Natural lead wire (8 turns (weight))
  • Ultra wire, x-fine Red wire (1 length (rib))
  • Flashabou, holographic Black holographic tinsel (1 strand (underbody))
  • Super Stretch Floss Gray super stretch floss (1 strand (body))
  • Ice Dub Peacock ice dub (Small pinch (thorax))
  • Solarez Bone Dry UV resin Clear uv resin (Body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the small glow glass bead to the eye and wrap 8 turns of 0.010 lead behind it; start the black thread behind the lead.
  2. Tie in the x-fine red wire and the gray Super Stretch Floss behind the lead, binding the tags down the bend to keep the body slim.
  3. Tie in the black holographic Flashabou and wrap it in slightly overlapping turns to cover the whole underbody down the bend and back; tie off.
  4. Wrap the Super Stretch Floss forward under light tension so it builds a slim, segmented chironomid taper with the holographic underbody just peeking through; tie off behind the lead.
  5. Follow the floss segments forward with the red wire rib; tie off.
  6. Coat the body with Solarez Bone Dry and cure. It toughens and adds shine.
  7. Dub a small thorax of peacock Ice Dub behind the bead, whip finish and add a drop of head cement.
