How to tie it
Dress the shank with thread back to the tie-in point above the barb.
Clip a small patch of olive pine squirrel from the hide, pull out and save the underfur, and line up the guard-hair tips. Tie the tips in as a tail about one hook-gap long, catching the bundle at 45 degrees so it doesn't roll.
Tie in the 0.2mm hot green wire at the tail and half-hitch the thread out of the way.
Form a wire dubbing brush (dubbing loop or block on a standard vise): wax the wire, lay the reserved squirrel underfur between the thread and the wire (mixed shades are fine. It adds mottle) and close the wire over it.
For the front of the brush, clip more squirrel close to the hide with the tips aligned so guard hairs and underfur together give longer speckled fibers for the collar.
Spin the brush until the hair stands perpendicular to the wire, picking out any loose clumps.
Wrap the brush forward from the tail in touching turns, underfur section first for the body, guard-hair section last for the collar. Tie off the wire behind the eye.
Trim the body fibers close along the shank at a slight angle, leaving the collar fibers full at the front.
Whip finish a neat head and cement, then brush the whole fly back with a toothbrush.
