How to tie it
Wrap the lead-free wire around the front third of the shank, not tight to the eye, so the fly balances and rides at an emerging nymph's angle rather than nose-down; lock it with thread dams front and back.
Lay the thread base back to above the barb and tie in a tail of mottled olive hackle fibers, tips even, pinched from the side of the feather.
Tie in the olive Micro Glint tinsel at the tail.
Tie in the Dirty Bug Yarn (split it down to one strand for this size) and wrap a slim body forward to about the 60% point; tie off. Keep it slender for burrower nymphs, more robust for clinger types.
Rib forward over the body with evenly spaced turns of Micro Glint; tie off.
Tie in a turkey quill slip good-side down at the front of the body, extending rearward. This wingcase will cover the front half ('halfback' style).
Wrap the Straggle Legs forward through the thorax in touching turns, sweeping the fibers back with each turn; don't crowd the eye. Tie off.
Pull the turkey slip over the thorax, tie down behind the eye and trim flush along the hook eye.
Build a small head, whip finish, then pick the legs out with a dubbing needle so they stand proud.
