Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Daiichi 1150 continuous-curve heavy caddis hook, 8 (or 10)
  • Thread Fluorescent green 6/0 Semperfli Classic Waxed

Materials

  • Togens tungsten bead Green Magic (1/8 inch)
  • Semperfli wire, 0.5mm Chartreuse ultra wire (1 length (body))
  • Semperfli Ice Straggle Chenille Olive uv straggle chenille mm (2 turns (rear collar))
  • Partridge hackle Brown hen hackle (1 feather (collar))
  • Solarez Bone Dry UV resin Clear uv resin (Body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Pinch the barb, slide the 1/8 inch Green Magic tungsten bead to the eye and start the fluorescent green thread behind it, laying a base down around the bend.
  2. Flatten the 0.5mm chartreuse wire with smooth flat-jawed pliers so it is no longer round, then tie it in along the near side of the shank down to the rear tie-in point.
  3. Build a slight thread taper for the underbody, leaving working room behind the bead.
  4. Wrap the flattened wire forward, each turn snugged just ahead of the last so a sliver of fluorescent thread peeks between the segments. Stop with room behind the bead, secure with plenty of tight turns and cut the wire with side-cutters, not scissors.
  5. Tie in the olive Ice Straggle Chenille and take two turns behind the bead; tie off.
  6. Prepare a brown partridge feather (strip the fluff), tie it in by the tip, fold the fibers back and take a couple of turns; bind the fibers back so they sweep rearward over the body.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead.
  8. Coat the wire body with Solarez Bone Dry and cure, the fluorescent thread lights up under the resin.
