Start the Brown thread and lay a base back to the tie-in point just above the barb.
Tie in a bunch of Golden Pheasant Tippet for the tail, binding it right at the black bars. A slight flare is fine.
Lay the Light Gold Wire along the side of the shank with the tag to the rear and bind it down.
Tie in the Semperfli Dirty Bug Yarn in Caddis Brown flat on the shank and wrap forward into a tapered, cigar-shaped body, stopping well short of the eye. Tie off.
Rib forward with big, wide turns of Light Gold Wire for thick segmentation. Tie off.
Take a couple of turns of webby Burnt Orange Saddle, tie off, and pull the stem off against the edge of the scissors rather than cutting. Sweep the fibres down and wrap back over them so they seat underneath as the throat.
Tie in a sparse pinch of Rusty Olive Angel Hair on top. Keep the flash light.
Roll the tips of a Natural Mallard Flank bunch together so they curve as one, pinch it on top of the shank, bring the thread up between your fingers and pull straight up to seat the wing on top. Trim the butts along the angle of the hook eye.
Build the head, whip finish, coat the whole head with Solarez and cure with the UV light.
