Streamer · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer / stillwater hook (2302-style), 8-10
  • Thread Orange or brown 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten or brass bead (optional) Copper or black slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Marabou Pumpkin / rusty orange-brown (1 plume for tail)
  • Krystal Flash Copper / root beer flash (4-6 strands)
  • Ice dub or seal-fur blend Pumpkin / rust with sparkle (Body)
  • Saddle or schlappen hackle Brown / furnace hen or soft hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide on the bead if using one, mount the hook and start the thread back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a pumpkin marabou tail one-and-a-quarter shank-lengths long, kept slim so it breathes.
  3. Add a few strands of copper flash along each side of the tail, matched to the tail length.
  4. Tie in a brown saddle hackle by the tip at the tail base, then twist the pumpkin ice dub / seal blend onto the thread.
  5. Wrap a buggy, sparkly body forward to just behind the bead (or eye).
  6. Palmer the hackle forward through the body in even turns and tie off; sweep the fibers back and, if they splay unevenly, trim so the legs come off the lower half so it tracks true.
  7. Build a small collar, whip finish and cement.
