How to tie it
Start the pink thread on the up-eye salmon hook and run it to the bend.
Pinch an even bunch of hot pink hackle fibers from a big cape feather and tie them in as a tail about one shank-length long, locking them with a soft loop right at the bend; wrap down the butts.
Tie in the brassy red wire rib.
Tie in the pearlescent poly flash and wrap the body forward to the 75% point. It will not lie perfectly flat, and that extra sparkle in the water is the point.
Tie in a soft, webby white saddle hackle by the butt at the front of the body and wind a good number of touching turns for a full, mobile, shrimpy collar.
Counter-wrap the red wire forward through the hackle to lock it in, tie off, and cut the wire with the inside of your scissor blades.
Preen the hackle rearward, then trim the topmost fibers flat so the wing can lie down over the body.
Tie in a wing of hot pink hackle fibers (or hot pink polar bear if you have it) on top, reaching about the end of the tail.
Form a small, tidy salmon-fly head, whip finish, and coat the head with UV resin; cure.
