Hook Gamakatsu jig hook, 1
Thread olive 3/0
Materials
Conehead Gold, large (1)
Lead-free wire .035 (weight) Natural lead wire (10-12 turns)
Flash 'n Slinky fibre (tail) Orange holographic tinsel (tapered bunch)
Semperflash Mirage tinsel Mirror orange (3 strands per side)
SF fibres (belly) Off white (half hank, tapered)
SF fibres (sides) Camo/rainbow (1 bunch per side)
Flash 'n Slinky fibre (back) Olive crinkle flash fine (halved and tapered)
Ultra eyes Gold, 5/16 inch (2)
UV resin and markers Clear / dark bars (head build and barring)
How to tie it
Slide the large gold conehead onto the size 1 jig hook, wrap 10-12 turns of.035 lead-free wire, and push them up into the cone; start the olive 3/0 thread and lay a base back over the wire.
Tie in a tapered bunch of orange Flash 'n Slinky split along each side at the rear of the lead, covering it.
Add three strands of mirror orange Mirage tinsel down each side, reaching the end of the tail.
Push the cone back and build a thread base so the following materials have something to grip.
Tie a tapered half-hank of off-white SF fibre under the shank for the belly, using plenty of thread pressure - SF fibre is slippery.
Tie the camo/rainbow SF fibre along each side to tone the orange down, with the flash showing about halfway up the flanks.
Cut the olive Flash 'n Slinky in half, taper the ends, and tie one bunch on each top corner so the dark back envelops the lighter sides; whip finish. The wraps get covered next.
Brush all the fibres out and back so the layers marry together.
Build UV resin along the head, set a 5/16-inch gold eye on each side, shape them, then fill between and around the eyes with more resin and cure; add perch bars down the sides with a marker.
