How to tie it
Start the thread mid-shank on the 2X-long size 10 hook and build a solid thread base.
Flare one end of a piece of 40 lb monofilament with a torch, slide four bright green glass beads onto it, and lash the mono along the top of the shank so the beads sit at the rear, peeking off the bend. The flared end keeps them from sliding off.
Tie in a webby partridge hackle by its tip just ahead of the beads.
Take the thread back to just ahead of the beads and wrap the partridge rearward so its soft fibers envelope the beads as breathing legs; tie off.
Blend a small pinch each of natural, black, and olive deer hair (underfur combed out) in your hand so the colors mix into a mottled clump.
Hold the bundle over the shank, take a soft turn and a half of thread, and pull down so the hair flares and spins around the shank.
Repeat with fresh mixed pinches, varying the color mix, up the shank to just behind the eye.
Pull the hair back, half hitch, and whip finish behind the eye.
Trim the spun deer hair to a rough, ragged case shape (it should look like bottom junk, not a neat cigar) taking care not to clip the partridge legs at the rear.
