Tie in an olive marabou tail slightly longer than the shank, and wrap the butts down all the way to the eye for a level underbody.
Tie in the pearl metallic braid at the bend for the shellback, and a piece of small copper wire along the side, both trailing rearward.
Clip four strands of bright green peacock herl and tie them in by the tips; take the thread forward, then wrap the herl body by hand. Tying by the tips stands the barbules out for a buggier body.
Tie in a burnt orange micro-barb saddle hackle by the butt just behind the eye; half hitch.
Palmer the hackle rearward in four or five evenly spaced turns, then reverse-wrap the copper wire forward through it to lock it in; tie off the wire and cut it with the inside of your scissors.
Trim the hackle fibers off the top of the body, pull the pearl braid shellback snugly over the top, tie down behind the eye, and whip finish.
Lay your scissors along each side at 45 degrees and trim the hackle so the legs come off the bottom only. A palmered shellback fly will spin and get refused if fibers stick out sideways.
