Tyer Recipe

  • Hook streamer hook, 4
  • Thread clear monofilament thread

Materials

  • Senyo's Laser Dub (body and head) White laser dub (generous amount)
  • Uni-Mylar size 12 (rib) Gold/silver, gold side out (1 length)
  • Polar bear or substitute (first wing layer) Golden yellow polar bear or substitute (sparse bunch)
  • Glimmer poly bear (lateral line) Red poly bear fibers (thin veil per side)
  • SF fibers with glimmer (mid wing) Orange permanent marker (small bunch)
  • SF fibers (upper wing) Redfish (orange-brown) (small bunch)
  • SF fibers (topping) Peacock ice dub (small bunch)
  • Speckled gold Flashabou (accents) Black and gold speckled flashabou (a few strands per top corner)
  • Ice Dub (head top) Golden brown ice dub (small pinch)
  • Stick-on tape eyes Yellow, extra small (2)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (head coat)

How to tie it

  1. Start the clear mono thread on the size 4 streamer hook and tie in the Uni-Mylar (silver side up so gold shows when wrapped) at the bend.
  2. Loosely dub a body of white Laser Dub over the rear two-thirds of the shank, then pick it out with a bodkin until it is as fuzzy as you can get it.
  3. Rib the body with open turns of the Mylar, gold side out, and tie off.
  4. Tie a sparse bunch of golden-yellow polar bear (or substitute) on top with the tips slightly staggered; use many gentle turns. Mono thread will not take hard pressure.
  5. Tie a thin veil of red glimmer fibers along each side for the chub's red lateral line, teasing the ends back with your scissor blades.
  6. Stack the wing in layers on top, each slightly shorter than the last: orange SF fibers, then the orange-brown redfish SF blend building the taper, then a small peacock SF topping for the dark back; add a drop of glue between layers.
  7. Tie a few strands of speckled gold Flashabou along each top corner so the flash envelops the sides rather than sitting only on top.
  8. Roll golden brown Ice Dub onto the top of the head and a pinch of white Laser Dub underneath, wrapping right back to the hook eye to cover the tie-downs; whip finish and brush the head out.
  9. Stick a yellow tape eye on each side, then coat the head and eyes generously with UV resin and cure.
