  • Hook 1XL nymph hook, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (tail)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (body)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (half-back shellback)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (legs)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a short pheasant-tail-fiber tail at the bend.
  2. Tie in a bunch of pheasant tail fibers for the back and a few peacock herls.
  3. Wrap the peacock herl forward to form a plump body, leaving room at the eye.
  4. Pull the pheasant tail fibers forward over the back halfway and tie down to form the 'halfback' shellback.
  5. Wind a brown hackle collar at the head, or fold a few fibers back as legs.
  6. Build a small head and whip finish.
