Tyer Recipe

  • Hook curved scud/pupa hook, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Black or silver bead (1)
  • Thread/tinsel body Black body thread tinsel (shank length)
  • Fine wire or holographic rib Silver flashabou (1 length)
  • Thorax dubbing Black dubbing (pinch)
  • Antron gills White poly yarn (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, start thread behind it and wrap to above the barb.
  2. Tie in the rib, then return thread forward building a smooth slim body two-thirds up the shank.
  3. Counter-wrap the rib in open spirals and tie off.
  4. Coat the body with thin UV resin for a glossy segmented look.
  5. Dub a small thorax behind the bead.
  6. Tie in a short tuft of white antron as gills behind the bead and whip finish.
