Thread clear mono tying thread
Materials
Moose mane hairs (body) One light, one dark (2 hairs)
UV resin (Solarez Bone Dry, body coat) Clear uv resin (1 coat)
Antron (wing) White poly yarn (1 tuft)
Seal fur blend with black Ice Dub (thorax) Black/gray seal fur blend with ice dub (small amount)
Grizzly hackle (collar) Dun grizzly dry fly hackle (2 turns)
How to tie it
Start the clear mono thread on the size 14 curved hook and run it around the bend.
Select one light and one dark moose mane hair, cut off the fine tips about a third of the way down, and tie both in at the bend so they lie side by side on top of the shank.
Give the pair a slight twist so they stay together, then wrap them forward as one to about the 70% point. The two tones create the segmented chironomid body; tie off.
Coat the quill body with thin UV resin and cure it for durability.
Tie in a tuft of white Antron with plenty pointing forward over the eye, tying it down just ahead of the body; clip the rear-facing stub short so it suggests shuck trailing off the top.
Dub a buggy thorax of the black/gray seal blend with a pinch of black Ice Dub.
Take two turns of dun grizzly hackle through the thorax and tie off without crowding the eye.
Stand the Antron wing up and back, tuck the clear mono thread beneath it, and whip finish; leave the wing long. It pokes out of the surface film.
