Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 90-degree offset jig hook, 8
  • Thread brown 6/0

Materials

  • Slotted bead Copper bead (1 (1/8 inch))
  • Holographic Flashabou (underbody) Copper flashabou (1 strand)
  • Fine silver wire (dubbing-brush rib) Silver ice dub (1 length)
  • UV2 Seal-X dubbing Olive/brown dubbing (sparse strip)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the 1/8-inch copper slotted bead onto the jig hook, seat it against the eye, and start the brown thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a length of fine silver wire at the bend, folding the tag back over itself so it cannot pull off the shank.
  3. Tie in copper holographic Flashabou and wrap a smooth, bright underbody from the bend up to the bead; tie off.
  4. Lay a sparse strip of UV2 Seal-X olive/brown between the thread and the wire, then spin the wire into a dubbing brush; pluck and tease the fibers out with a wire brush so there are no lumps.
  5. Wrap the brush forward in open turns so the copper still glints through, preening the fibers back with every turn; finish with a snug turn or two behind the bead.
  6. Tie off the wire, cutting it with the inside of your scissor blades, and take a strong whip finish behind the bead.
  7. Brush the whole fly back with a stiff wire brush until the fibers sweep rearward and the copper underbody shows through the translucent collar; add a drop of head cement.
