Glass bead (1 (a weighted bead works too))
Flashabou Black (fine, silky) (3-4 strands, underbody)
Super Stretch floss Grey stretch floss (1 strand, overbody rib)
Head cement (Optional dab)
How to tie it
Slide the glass bead to the eye and start the rusty brown 8/0 behind it, small thread for small flies keeps the body thin.
Tie in the grey Super Stretch floss right behind the bead and bind it down well.
Even up 3-4 strands of fine black Flashabou and catch them in over the top.
Bind all the materials down the shank to the rear in a single pass with minimal thread, every extra wrap thickens the body. Half hitch.
Wind the Flashabou forward flat, layering to build a slim, slightly tapered body; it takes a while because the material is so thin and silky. Tie off behind the bead.
Wrap the grey stretch floss forward in wide, evenly spaced turns so the flashy black underbody and the grey rib show about equally. Tie off.
Whip finish with the rusty brown thread behind the bead, the thread color doubles as the wing-bud coloration. A dab of head cement or UV is optional; the floss is durable as-is.
