How to tie it
Start the flat red 6/0 at the front and wrap back to the tail tie-in point at the bend.
Pinch a small bunch of dun Coq de Leon fibers, measure them, and tie in the tail with a turn around the bend. If it flares slightly, that's good.
Tie in the small red wire rib.
Dub the finely chopped wool body forward with a slight taper toward the head. Short fibers are the trick: chop and blend the yarn until it dubs buggy, since that texture traps air in the water.
Rib the red wire forward in open turns; tie off. Pluck the body lightly with a brush for extra bugginess.
Dub a loose, sparse wisp of UV pearl Ice Dub at the front and pull the longer fibers so they veil back mostly over the top. This UV underwing is the improvement that makes the fly.
Tie in a dark partridge hackle by the tip behind the eye, fold the fibers back, and take a couple of sparse turns for a soft-hackle collar; tie off and trim the butt.
Whip finish and coat the head with Bone Dry, curing with the UV torch.
