How to tie it
Wrap.035 lead-free wire across the whole shank. The hidden weight is what gets this fly down, getting it deep without cones or beads. Start the red 6/0 and lock the lead down with thread.
Pinch a sparse bunch off the side of a soft burnt orange blood plume (half of what looks right, since marabou shrinks when wet) and tie in a slim tail at the bend, about a shank length. It must swim.
Tie in the small copper wire rib at the rear.
Dub the seal-blend body forward to behind the eye, fairly sparse and buggy so the fibers halo off the thread. A dubbing loop or spinning vise helps here.
Tie in a webby burnt orange saddle at the head. Take two turns at the front to build the collar, then palmer four open turns back to the bend, seal-bugger style.
Counter-wrap the copper wire forward through the hackle to reinforce it; tie off and trim at the head.
Build a neat red thread head and whip finish.
Brush out the seal fur along the body for translucency, then coat the head with Bone Dry UV resin and cure. She's bulletproof.
