Materials
Brass bead Silver (color the bead to suit the pattern) (5/32")
Crosscut rabbit strip To suit (many colors tied) (Hair cut from the strip, tail and collar)
Wire Red wire (Small/medium, dubbing brush core)
Semperfli Ice Straggle chenille To match estaz cactus chenille (Body)
Dubbing wax (Light coat on the wire)
Head cement (At the head)
How to tie it
Slide the bead to the eye and dress the whole shank well with 6/0 thread so nothing slips on this hard-fished pattern.
Cut a bunch of crosscut rabbit hair from the hide, keeping the nice straight guard hairs, and tie it in at the bend at the tail length you want.
Tie in the Ice Straggle chenille at the rear and wrap the buggy, flashy body forward over the shank. This is the glint that lives underneath the collar. Tie off short of the bead.
Tie in the small red wire, folding it back over itself so it can't pull out. Half hitch.
Lay more crosscut rabbit hair (cut off the hide) across the thread-and-wire, wax the wire, and spin it into a tight dubbing brush.
Wrap the brush forward, preening the hair back each turn, and pinch the final wrap of wire down tight in behind the bead so it seats snug. Trim the excess wire.
