Bead Silver bead (3/32")
Grizzly hackle fibers Light olive hackle fibers (Small bunch from the base of a feather, tail)
Wire Green small wire (Extra fine, rib)
UV Ice Dub Light olive sparkle dubbing (Body)
Midge Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (Small bunch, legs)
Peacock herl (1 strand, collar)
How to tie it
Slide the bead to the eye and start the thread, laying a base slightly around the bend.
Strip a bunch of fibers from the soft base of a light olive grizzly hackle, even the tips, and tie the tail in just around the bend so it angles down with the hook's curve.
Tie in the extra-fine green wire, folded back over itself so it can't pull out. Half hitch.
Dub the light olive UV Ice Dub body tight, Ice Dub packs down well, building a fat clinger-style taper that's thickest just behind the bead.
Rib the green wire forward in fairly close, even turns for contrast; tie off.
For the legs, tie a small bunch of midge Krystal Flash on the near side behind the bead, then pull the bunch over the top of the shank and tie it down on the far side so a set of bright legs splays from each side. Trim them even.
Tie in one peacock herl in front, take a couple of turns behind the bead as a collar, and tie it off behind the herl rather than at the bead for a cleaner head.
Whip finish, trim any stray flash, and add a small drop of cement.
