Materials
Uni-Stretch Hot pink uni stretch (Short length, butt)
Peacock herl Bright green peacock herl (2 strands, body)
Hackle Light dun grizzly hackle (1 feather, palmered)
CDC puff Natural cdc feathers (1, underwing)
Deer hair Natural, very fine texture (1 stacked bunch, wing)
How to tie it
Start the tan 8/0 and wrap a base back to the bend.
Tie in the hot pink Uni-Stretch and wrap a small bright butt at the rear. Cut it a touch long since it stretches back. Bind the tag down.
Size a light dun grizzly hackle to the hook and tie it in at the rear by the butt, dull side forward, so it wraps forward dry-fly style.
Tie in two strands of bright green peacock herl and wind them forward by hand, keeping the body thin and the barbules standing, stopping short of the head. Tie off.
Palmer the grizzly forward in open turns to the front; tie off and snip with the edge of the scissors so you don't cut stray hackle.
Trim the hackle fibers off the top of the body, then tie a CDC puff flat on top so it lies back to where the butt starts.
Stack a small bunch of very fine deer hair, tips even. Tie it in on top elk-hair-caddis style. Pinch it in place, take plenty of good turns, tips reaching the end of the body.
Lift the hair butts, take a few turns of thread in front to prop them upright, whip finish under them, and trim the butts into a short upright 'mohawk' head.
