Tie in 3-4 strands of tan midge Krystal Flash and bind them down to the bend for a short trailing tail. It doesn't look like much, but it's the trigger.
Tie in the fine iridescent copper rib at the rear and keep it out of the way.
Dub a small, slim, tapered body of golden brown Hare-Tron up about 80% of the shank. This silky Antron-blend dubbing is what makes the fly work.
Wind the copper rib forward in open turns; tie off. Leave a wisp of loose dubbing at the front for now.
Cut a mallard flank slip with square tips and tie it in flat on top as a short emerger wing angling back over the body; trim the butts by laying the scissors along the top of the eye.
Whip finish a minimal head, nothing major, and trim.
Tease the Hare-Tron out to the tops and sides with a soft toothbrush (gently. A hard brush will tear the iridescent rib), so loose fibers halo the wing. Add a small dab of Bone Dry at the head and cure.
