Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Articulated: streamer-hook shank rear section, Owner Mosquito front hook, joined with 50 lb braid, 2 (rear tied on a size 2 streamer hook, front on an Owner Mosquito hook)
  • Thread White Danville flat waxed

Materials

  • Senyo Laser Dub White laser dub (several pinches)
  • Senyo Laser Dub Fluorescent chartreuse senyo laser dub (several pinches)
  • Senyo Laser Dub Fluorescent fuchsia senyo laser dub (small pinch (cheeks))
  • Palmer Chenille, medium Pearl palmer chenille (2 lengths)
  • Crosscut rabbit strip White rabbit zonker strip (2 lengths)
  • Real Eyes (dumbbell with pupils) Silver bead chain eyes medium (1 pair, small)
  • Power Pro braid (50 lb, short loop)
  • Solarez Bone Dry UV resin Clear uv resin (on both heads)

How to tie it

  1. Rear section: dress the shank of the size 2 streamer hook well with the flat waxed thread so nothing spins.
  2. Tie in a tail of white Laser Dub on the bottom and fluorescent chartreuse on top, extending past the bend.
  3. Tie in medium pearl Palmer Chenille at the rear and take two or three turns over the tail base, then tie in a white crosscut rabbit strip with the hair sweeping rearward.
  4. Wind the rabbit strip and the Palmer Chenille forward together, stroking the fibres back each turn. Tie off, keeping the hide bound down solidly, whip finish, and coat the wraps with Solarez. Cut the hook bend off with heavy pliers. This is now the articulated tail section.
  5. Front section: dress the shank of the Owner Mosquito hook. Tie in the small Real Eyes near the front with X-wraps, then circle thread underneath to cinch them; they need no cement.
  6. Loop 50 lb Power Pro through the rear section's hook eye, lay both braid ends along the top of the front shank so the rear section trails directly in line behind it, and bind the braid down, tying it back over itself.
  7. Tie in pearl Palmer Chenille and a second white crosscut rabbit strip at the rear of the front shank and wind them forward together as before, stopping behind the eyes.
  8. Bridge the gap between sections: fold a little white Laser Dub over the top and pinch more in from the bottom so the joint is hidden.
  9. Add a fluorescent fuchsia Laser Dub cheek folded in half on each side, these fill the void beside the eyes and bleed through the pattern.
  10. Finish over the top with fluorescent chartreuse Laser Dub tied back over itself, then a final pinch of white, working right up behind the dumbbell eyes.
  11. Whip finish and coat the head wraps with Solarez Bone Dry. The eyes sit under the shank, so the fly swims hook-point-up.
