How to tie it
Dress the shank with thread, carrying the wraps a little way down the bend.
Tie in the extra-fine wire, running it well down the side of the bend. It adds no weight but plenty of durability.
Roll a small pinch of light olive Ice Dub tightly onto the thread and dub a neat egg sack at the rear of the bend. Keep it tight, not buggy. Take a couple of turns of the wire through it for segmentation, then leave the wire hanging at the rear.
Tie in the cree saddle hackle at the front of the egg sack.
Dub a thin body of the translucent dubbing forward, leaving space at the front for the wing.
Palmer the cree hackle forward in close turns (hackle this fly heavily. It is meant to skate) and tie off.
Counter-wrap the fine wire forward through the hackle to lock every turn in place, tie off, and break away the excess. Push the hackle fibres back and down slightly.
Clean and stack a small bunch of fine dark deer hair with even black tips. Measure it so the tips reach the bend, and tie it in as a wing over the top with a soft loop, then firm wraps.
Lift the butt ends, take a few thread turns in front to prop the wing slightly fanned, whip finish, cement the head, then trim the butts to a short mohawk.
