Lay a thread base along the shank of the continuous-bend hook, ending about a third of the way back from the eye.
Tie in the strip of furry foam and bind it down toward the rear, letting tension off gradually so the body tapers thicker toward the front.
Wrap the furry foam forward in slightly overlapping turns to just behind the eye, tight at the rear, looser in front for a chunky tapered dragon body. Tie off and cut, leaving nice segmentation.
Figure-eight a pair of medium black mono eyes onto the shank directly behind the hook eye.
Tie in the 1/4" stretch scud back on top of the shank behind the eyes, anchoring it back to the body.
Strip the webby material from a light olive pheasant rump feather and tie in a robust bunch of fibres along each side for legs, dragon nymphs have big legs, matching the two sides. Trim the butts and half-hitch.
Dub the seal/Ice Dub blend over the thorax tie-downs and take a few wraps behind the eyes to build the pronounced head.
Pull the scud back forward over the thorax and eyes, tie it down at the front, not too tight or it will pull out, then fold it back over itself and secure.
Pinch the leftover scud back together and cut at an angle for a neat shape, whip finish, and apply head cement.
