Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Scud/pupa (curved) hook, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Catgut / Liquid Lace (stretched over body) Green or amber catgut liquid lace (1 strand)
  • Dubbing (underbody) Green or tan dubbing (thin)
  • Dubbing (thorax) Brown/peacock dubbing (small pinch)
  • Bead (optional) Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)

How to tie it

  1. If using a bead, slide it to the eye, then start thread and lay a base to the bend on the curved hook.
  2. Dub a thin tapered underbody along the rear two-thirds of the shank.
  3. Tie in the catgut strand at the bend and wrap it forward under tension in touching turns so it forms a translucent segmented body over the underbody.
  4. Tie off the catgut about one-third back from the eye.
  5. Dub a slightly fuller brown or peacock thorax up to the bead or eye.
  6. Whip finish and cement.
