Tyer Recipe
Hook TMC 2457 curved scud/pupa, 10 (go smaller to match naturals)
Thread Hot brown 8/0 Semperfli
Materials
Lead wire Natural lead wire (12 turns of 0.020)
Semperfli Micro Metal / glimmer thread (rib) Green semperfli micro metal glimmer thread (1 strand)
Haretron dubbing (body) Caddis green (as needed)
Crystal dub (thorax) Olive brown ice dub (1 pinch)
How to tie it
Wrap 12 turns of 0.020 lead over the middle of the shank, no bead on this one, and start the hot brown thread, locking the lead where you want the balance point.
Tie in the green micro-metal glimmer thread at the bend for the rib.
Dub a tapered body of caddis green Haretron from the bend to the front of the lead, keeping it rough so the Antron fibers can poke through.
Rib forward with the glimmer thread in nice wide turns for segmentation, tie it off, and take a half hitch.
Rub the body back with your fingers or a picker so the Antron pokes through the rib. That halo is the point of the fly.
Dub a thick thorax of olive brown crystal dub just behind the eye and tie off.
Whip finish, then pick out the underside of the thorax with a needle so the fibers trail down and back.
Finish the head with cement or a thin coat of resin for durability.
