Streamer · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer / stillwater hook (2302-style), 8-10
  • Thread Maroon or black 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten or brass bead (optional) Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Marabou Blood red / maroon (1 plume for tail)
  • Krystal Flash Red / claret flash (4-6 strands)
  • Ice dub or seal-fur blend Maroon / claret ice dub or seal fur blend (Body)
  • Saddle or schlappen hackle Maroon / black saddle or schlappen hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide on the bead if using one, mount the hook and start the thread back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a maroon marabou tail one-and-a-quarter shank-lengths long, keeping it slim so it breathes.
  3. Add a few strands of red flash along each side of the tail, the same length as the marabou.
  4. Tie in a saddle hackle by the tip at the tail base, then twist maroon ice dub / seal blend onto the thread.
  5. Wrap a buggy dubbed body forward to just behind the bead (or eye).
  6. Palmer the hackle forward through the body in evenly spaced turns and tie off; sweep the fibers back.
  7. Build a small collar, whip finish and cement.
