Emerger · Trout · Advanced · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook TMC 5262, 2x heavy nymph, #12
  • Thread Red 8/0

Materials

  • Webby saddle hackle fibers (tail) Black saddle hackle (good clump with micro barbs)
  • Iridescent tinsel/flash (rib) Purple flash fibres (1 strand)
  • Hare's Ear Plus dubbing (body) Black dubbing (rough noodle)
  • Ice Dub (thorax) Peacock black ice dub (small pinch)
  • Hungarian partridge (collar) Natural partridge (1 small feather, tied by tip)
  • Solarez Bone Dry (finish) Clear uv resin (thin coat on head)

How to tie it

  1. Start red thread and tie in a good clump of webby black saddle fibers at the bend as the tail.
  2. Tie in a strand of iridescent purple flash for the rib at the bend and throw a half hitch.
  3. Dub a rough, buggy body of black Hare's Ear Plus forward over the rear two-thirds of the shank. The Antron in it gives a subtle shine.
  4. Spiral the purple rib forward through the body in open turns and tie off; preen the Antron fibers back so they lie along the body.
  5. Dub a slightly thicker thorax of peacock-black Ice Dub in front of the body, stopping short of the eye.
  6. Prepare a small partridge feather (strip the fluff, sweep the fibers back) and tie it in by the tip at the front of the thorax.
  7. Take one to two turns of partridge as a sparse collar so the fibers sweep back over the thorax; tie off and clip the stem.
  8. Build a neat little red thread head, whip finish, and touch it with Solarez Bone Dry; pinch the barb.
