How to tie it
Start light olive thread and lash small dumbbell eyes on TOP of the shank near the eye with figure-eight wraps. The fly rides inverted and jigs hook-point-up.
Tie in a clump of barred craft fur at the bend, extending rearward as the tail/mouthparts, and bind the butts tight.
Add two strands of black Krystal Flash extending past the craft fur as antennae.
Make the crayfish eyes: burn the tip of two pieces of 40lb mono into a ball, slide a glass bead onto each, and lock with a dab of Solarez cured front and back; tie one on each side at equal length, curving outward.
Wrap a couple of turns of orange Ice Dub chenille at the bend as an egg sac ball.
Select four wide, webby round-tipped feathers for claws; tie them in at the bend two per side angled inward. The chenille ball splays them out into an open-claw posture.
Tie in the copper wire rib, then the 1/4-inch light olive Scud Back at the rear, then the olive schlappen by its tip, then the root beer Palmer chenille.
Wind the schlappen and Palmer chenille together forward to behind the eyes for a blended, breathing leg-body; tie off and trim the fibers off the shellback side so the back lies clean.
Pull the Scud Back over the trimmed side, tie down behind the dumbbell eyes, and spiral the copper wire through as a rib, weaving carefully so the legs find their way through; tie off.
Tie in three fire-tip Sili Legs at the head, whip finish, and coat the shellback and tie-downs top and bottom with Solarez (two coats for durability).
