Finish Super glue or clear nail polish on the thread wraps; head cement
How to tie it
Put the hook in the vise and add lead wire if wanted.
Lay a black thread base down the shank to the start of the bend.
Strip a little fibre off the end of a length of black chenille to expose the core, tie it in at the rear, then advance the thread to just behind the eye.
Wind the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the eye, tie it off and trim the excess.
Take the thread back to about the middle of the shank (McFly says about a third back).
Fold two pieces of round rubber leg and tie them in at the middle of the shank, one set pulled to each side, with several wraps, then trim the ends evenly.
Advance the thread behind the eye and tie in a pencil-thick clump of squirrel tail with the underfur removed as a wing, so the tips reach back to about the hook bend; spread it with a thumb.
Build a neat head, whip finish and coat the thread wraps (including those under the legs) with glue, nail polish or head cement.
Split the rubber legs so they fan out.
