Bread Cube Fly
Nymph · Carp · Panfish · Largemouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard wide-gap dry/wet hook, #6-10
- Thread Tan or white 140 denier (3/0)
Materials
- Body White/cream material (White closed-cell foam block, or spun and trimmed white deer hair)
- Crust accent Tan/brown crust accent (Marker or light dubbing tint (optional))
- Glue Clear head cement (Superglue to lock the body)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lay a thread base along the shank.
- Either bind a small white foam block onto the shank with crossing wraps and a drop of superglue, or spin white deer hair densely over the shank.
- If using deer hair, pack each clump tight so the body is dense enough to sit low and soak slightly like waterlogged bread.
- Whip finish and remove the fly from the vise.
- Trim the foam or spun hair into a rough cube about a hook-gap on each side.
- Lightly tint one or two faces tan with a marker to suggest crust, leaving the rest white.
