How to tie it
Bring the thread back to just in front of the hook point.
Prepare a golden pheasant breast feather from the edge of the skin: spread it, clip the tip, remove the fuzz and thin it, then tie it in as the tail with a couple of loose wraps and pull it forward until the cut V disappears.
Smooth the thread up under the body area and tie in the wire for the rib.
Dub the claret STS Trilobal onto the thread a little at a time, fairly heavy so the body can be picked out, and stop short of the eye, leaving room for the wing and hackle.
Wind the wire rib forward in even turns (traditionally five, the tyer adds a few more), then twist the wire and break it off.
Pick the body out with a dubbing teaser.
Tie in the black arctic fox guard hairs, with the underfur removed, as a wing, and secure with a couple of hard wraps.
Fold a couple of strands of black Krystal Flash over and tie them in along each side of the wing, then trim to length.
Tie in the claret guinea hackle, wrap it, and fold the fibers back with the back of the scissors.
Tie off and trim the hackle stem and build a small head.
