Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig streamer hook (60-degree) or standard 2XL streamer hook, #6-10
  • Thread Black 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Bead Gold or copper (slotted) (Tungsten, sized to hook)
  • Tail Natural pheasant (Pheasant rump/marabou-like aftershaft plume)
  • Flash Copper flashabou (Few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Natural pheasant (Pheasant tail fibers or twisted pheasant, wrapped)
  • Hackle/collar Natural pheasant rump (1 webby feather, palmered/swept)
  • Hot spot Orange or red material (Ice dubbing or thread collar behind the bead)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead to the eye and mount the hook.
  2. Start thread at the bend and tie in a soft pheasant rump/aftershaft plume as a breathing tail, one shank length, with a few strands of copper flash.
  3. Twist a bunch of pheasant tail fibers into a rope and wrap them forward as a segmented body to about the 75% mark.
  4. Tie in a webby pheasant rump feather by the tip and wrap 2-3 turns as a soft, mobile collar, then sweep the barbs back.
  5. Dub a short, bright orange hot-spot collar right behind the bead as a trigger point.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
