Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, #6-10
  • Thread Black or olive 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Bead Gold or black bead (Brass/tungsten, sized to hook (optional))
  • Tail Olive or black material (Marabou with a few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Olive or black material (Ice dubbing or chenille)
  • Hackle Grizzly Brahma hen (1 webby Brahma hen feather, palmered)
  • Rib Copper wire (Counter-wrapped to lock hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead on if using, mount the hook, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail about one shank length with a few strands of flash.
  3. Catch in the copper wire rib and tie in a Brahma hen hackle by the tip at the bend.
  4. Dub or wrap the body forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Palmer the Brahma hen hackle forward in 5-6 open turns to the front, the soft mottled barbs give more movement than a stiff saddle.
  6. Counter-wrap the copper rib forward through the hackle to lock it, wiggling to avoid trapping fibers, and tie off.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
