Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook (Tiemco 200R or equivalent), #4-10
  • Thread Black 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Bead Black bead (Brass, sized to hook (optional))
  • Underweight Lead (8-10 turns .020 lead wire)
  • Tail Black ostrich herl (Rabbit zonker strip, one shank length)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (Few strands Flashabou per side)
  • Collar Black ostrich herl (Marabou plume)
  • Head Black ostrich herl (Hare's ear or ice dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook, and wrap 8-10 turns of lead wire behind the bead for weight.
  2. Start thread and tie in a black rabbit zonker strip at the bend, extending about one shank length past for the tail.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl Flashabou down each side and trim to just past the tail.
  4. Tie in a black marabou plume by the tip and wrap it as a full collar, sweeping the fibers back.
  5. Dub a shaggy hare's-ear or ice-dubbing head between the collar and the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
