Materials

  • Bead Cyclops or plain brass/gold bead (5/32 in the In The Riffle and Lance Dean tyings)
  • Weight Optional lead wire behind the bead
  • Tail Black rabbit or pine squirrel zonker strip, about a hook shank long
  • Flash Pearl flashabou
  • Collar Black marabou, one clump on top and one underneath
  • Head Black dubbing (Hareline dubbing or squirrel fur)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead onto the hook and start the thread behind the bead, then wrap back to the bend above the barb.
  2. Measure a zonker strip so the tail is about a hook shank long, part the fur so the bare hide lies on top of the shank, and tie it in with tight wraps at the barb.
  3. Advance the thread to just behind the bead, lay the strip forward over the top of the shank, part the fur and tie it down tightly so it does not twist, then trim the excess.
  4. Tie in pearl Flashabou so it flows down each side, and trim it to about the length of the tail.
  5. Tie in a clump of marabou on top of the shank with the tips reaching the bend, then repeat underneath, and trim the butts close.
  6. Dub a small head behind the bead, whip finish and trim the thread.
  7. Optionally pull the marabou back and brush a thin layer of Zap-A-Gap on the underside for durability.
