Borski's Craft Fur Shrimp

Materials

  • Eyes Medium bead chain (1/8 in)
  • Tail Polar fiber (or craft fur), barred with a black Sharpie
  • Body Two saddle hackles, palmered
  • Collar Chartreuse Grande Estaz

How to tie it

  1. Build a thread base from the hook eye back, take the thread about an eighth of an inch past the hook point and build a small bump there.
  2. Cut a clump of polar fibre about half a pencil thick, pull out the loose fluff, and cut it to about one and a half times the hook shank length. Tie it in on top of the bump with a couple of back wraps.
  3. Bar the tail on each side with a black Sharpie.
  4. Flip the fly over and put head cement at the back of the tail; let it dry for a few minutes to stiffen the tail so it stays up.
  5. Bring the thread forward and tie in 1/8 inch medium bead chain eyes about a quarter inch back from the hook eye, with cross wraps. Work the thread back to the base of the tail.
  6. Tie in two saddle hackles, taken about midway up the stem and cut clean, at the base of the tail. Bring the thread forward and palmer both hackles forward, pulling the fibres a little so they flare. Tie off, trim, and put head cement on.
  7. Tie in chartreuse Grande Estaz at the base of the palmered hackle. Bring the thread all the way forward, rotate the Estaz forward in a rotary vise, and tie it off right at the eyes, not past them, cutting from the top.
  8. Tie in a weed guard if wanted, whip finish, and add head cement.
