Shrimp · Bonefish · Redfish · Sea Trout · Snook · Permit · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater flats hook (Mustad C68 / Gamakatsu B10S), straight eye, #1-4
  • Thread Wine/rust 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (Medium bead-chain)
  • Tail/antennae Tan carapace (Craft fur with pearl Krystal Flash)
  • Legs/collar Grizzly hackle (Palmered grizzly hackle)
  • Body Rust/tan material (Craft fur dubbing brush or spun craft fur)
  • Weed guard Clear weed guard (Hard mono V-guard)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and bind medium bead-chain eyes a third back from the eye.
  2. At the bend tie in a tan craft-fur tail one shank length long with a few strands of pearl flash for antennae.
  3. Tie in a grizzly hackle by the tip just ahead of the tail.
  4. Dub or spin a rust/tan craft-fur body forward to just behind the eyes, keeping it shaggy.
  5. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward through the body in 4-5 open turns and tie off behind the eyes so the barbs splay as legs.
  6. If desired, tie in a hard-mono V weed guard at the head, then figure-8 around the eyes and build a small head.
  7. Whip finish and cement; pick out the body fibers to fatten the shrimp profile.
