How to tie it
Tie in a tail of tan craft fur at the bend, 1.5 shank lengths long, with a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash; bar the tail with a brown permanent marker for a mottled, shrimpy look.
Palmer a sparse grizzly hackle over the rear third of the shank, 3-4 turns, to suggest legs and add movement.
Lash dumbbell eyes on top of the shank at the 70% mark so the fly rides hook point up.
Spin 2-3 clumps of natural deer hair in front of and around the eyes, packing each clump tightly.
Whip finish in front of the hair, then trim the head to a flat-bottomed wedge. A bullet-slider shape that pushes just enough water and slides through grass without hanging up.
Leave a sparse collar of untrimmed hair tips sweeping back over the body, and cement the whip finish.
