Booby Snake

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Long-shank streamer/wet hook, #8-10
  • Thread Black 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Tail Black or olive material (Long marabou plume, one shank length plus)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (Few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Black or olive material (Chenille or ice dubbing)
  • Eyes White/booby foam (Pair of booby foam eyes (foam cylinder or paired beads))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a long marabou tail at least one and a half shank lengths for a snaking, leech-like profile, with a couple of strands of pearl flash on top.
  3. Wrap the chenille or dubbing forward to about the 80% mark, leaving room at the front for the eyes.
  4. At the head, figure-8 a pair of booby foam eyes tight to the shank so they sit up like buoyant eyes.
  5. Wrap a small band of chenille or dubbing behind and in front of the eyes to blend the transition, then build a neat head.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and cement.
