How to tie it
Cut two matched foam balls from the lime HD foam block with the foam cutters, then start the fl. green 140D at the eye and figure-eight the pair on top of the shank right behind the hook eye. These oversized foam eyes are what make it a booby, and they need to be right at the front so the fly hangs nose-up.
Run the thread back to the bend and tie in a strip of olive grizzly barred black micro rabbit zonker, hide side down, with the fur extending about a shank and a half past the bend for the tail.
Trim the leather butt on a taper and bind it down along the shank so there is no step under the body.
Wrap the 12mm minnow belly straggle hackle forward from the bend to just behind the foam eyes in touching turns, stroking the strands rearward with each wrap so they lie back rather than standing out like a bottle brush.
Take a couple of thread wraps behind and in front of the foam to lock everything, then whip finish between the eyes and the hook eye.
Check the fly floats nose-up in a glass of water before you tie a dozen of them; if the foam is undersized for the hook it will not suspend and the whole retrieve stops working.
