Booby Minky

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Long-shank / wide-gape stillwater hook, 8-10
  • Thread Black or white 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes Closed-cell foam booby eyes (1 pair, medium)
  • Wing/tail Rabbit (or mink) zonker strip (one-and-a-half shank lengths)
  • Body Cactus/crystal chenille or Fritz (pearl, olive, black) (1 length)
  • Flash (optional) Krystal Flash along the strip (few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in the foam booby eyes at the head with figure-8 wraps and round the ends.
  2. Take the thread to the bend and tie in a rabbit/mink zonker strip on top as the wing/tail, extending about one-and-a-half shank lengths, hair pointing back.
  3. Add a few strands of Krystal Flash along the strip if desired.
  4. Tie in the chenille/Fritz and wind a body forward to the eyes, then figure-8 around them. (Do not bind the strip down the body so the fur stays free to breathe.)
  5. Whip finish in front of the eyes and varnish.
