Booby Cormorant Traffic Light

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Wet-fly / stillwater hook (Fario wet-fly 10 or Kamasan B175), 10-12
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes Closed-cell foam booby eyes, small (1 pair)
  • Wing/tail Black marabou (one shank length)
  • Body Peacock herl (2 strands) (over red holographic tinsel underbody)
  • Rib Medium mirage/pearl tinsel over medium red holographic (1 length each)
  • Cheeks (optional) Jungle cock splits (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in the small foam booby eyes at the head with figure-8 wraps and round the ends.
  2. Run the thread to the bend and tie in a slim black marabou wing/tail one shank length long.
  3. Lay a base of red holographic tinsel, then tie in 2 strands of peacock herl and wind a slim body forward to the eyes.
  4. Counter-rib with medium mirage/pearl tinsel over the red holo for the flashing 'traffic light' effect, then figure-8 around the eyes.
  5. Add small jungle-cock cheeks each side of the eyes if desired.
  6. Whip finish in front of the eyes and varnish.
