Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater flats hook, straight eye, #2-6
  • Thread Tan 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (Stainless bead-chain)
  • Tail/wing Tan carapace (Rabbit strip or craft fur)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (Few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Legs Barred tan/orange rubber legs (2 pairs silicone rubber legs)
  • Body Pearl/tan material (Pearl braid or diamond braid)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and bind bead-chain eyes a third back from the eye with figure-8 wraps.
  2. Invert the hook so the eyes ride down and the point rides up (keeps it weedless on the flats).
  3. At the bend tie in a tan rabbit or craft-fur wing one shank length long with a few strands of pearl flash.
  4. Wrap the pearl braid forward to just behind the eyes to form the body.
  5. Splay a pair of barred rubber legs on each side, one pair mid-body and one pair flanking the eyes, for constant movement.
  6. Figure-8 around the eyes, build a small head, whip finish and cement.
